Zoom and tools

When I zoom on an image, then find an element I'd like to work on with a Tool, the tools react to the zoom differently - some leave it alone (e.g. Clone, Smudge), but some (e.g. Speck, Sratch removal) that really require side-by-side preview and have it as a default, zoom out when engaged, and I need to fish for the element again. All Tools seem to zoom out when done.

I tried to find some settings that I could make them not to zoom out by themselves when I don't want them to, but I couldn't. It's really nitpicking, I realize, and maybe useful for some other ways of editing that I'm trying to do, but I figured I'll mention it anyway.
