Autorange, thresholds and Dynamic Range slider

I'm trying to understand how exactly Autorange works. It eventually seems to apply a brightness curve to the image that is constructed based on Auto Black/White, Black/White Threshold and the Dynamic Range sliders.

This is how I understand it so far:

- If Auto Black or Auto White are not checked, the threshold sliders do nothing
- if they are checked, the respective thresholds sliders regulate how much of the input white/black levels are going to be mapped to the black and white sliders of the Dynamic Range slider
- If I keep the Dynamic Range slider values less than the 0%-100% limits, that will prevent block and blown pixels at the ends.

I got the part that Adjust could do the same and more, but I was hoping to stretch the RAW contrast a bit closer to what it should be automatically before fiddling with it manually.

The further you move the Autorange sliders, the more highlight and shadow detail is lost, but the higher the contrast. If you leave them at 0%, a single black or white pixel in the image will set the black or white point.
