I can zoom an image using mouse wheel or the magnifier icons. They zoom in or out from the centre. It'd be useful to be able to use the mouse wheel to zoom outwards (or do I mean inwards) from the location of the pointer. Like the magnifier on the PWP7 toolbar?

Dragging the mouse scrolls while the mouse wheel zooms. It's almost as easy to drag the area of interest into the center and then scroll as it is to use the PWP 7 zoom tool, but I will consider adding something similar in future versions. The PWP 8 magnifier tool is also improved over PWP 7 and is another quick way to see detail in part of the image.

Also, unlike PWP 7, the PWP 8 magnifier tool works on both the input and output images and can also display the zoomed input and output images side-by-side.
