Masking question

Is there a reason, which I obviously cannot think of, why when zoomed into an image and using the Mask Tool, one cannot use the left/right/up/down arrow keys to move about the image when specifically using the freehand outline or flood fill, without having to click on the images blue border after each application. Whereas, when using the paint tool option of the Mask dialogue, one can continue to scroll across the image after each application without the added step of clicking the blue border?
I often use the fill or freehand method to draft a mask when at 1:1 or greater and after each application (like drawing along a contour with the freehand tool, closing the "loop", then continuing along the border after the image is scrolled), I have to click on the blue border to make another selection, however, as stated above, that is not necessary with the paint tool method.
Thanks,
Marv
