PWP 5.0.1.9 Posted

Post by ksinkel »

Picture Window Pro 5.0.1.9 is now available for download.

PWP 5.0.1.9 updates the raw converter to support recently introduced cameras and to fix several bugs.

I have added Monitor Curves support to Album printing as well as new odd and even page options to support two-sided printing. Improvements have also been made to the strategy Album ues to find linked images when and album and its images are moved to a different folder subtree.

You can download the new version from http://dl-c.com/content/view/23/54/

I just downloaed and installed PWP Pro 5.0.1.9. The Advanced Shapen transformation does not "remember" the previous setting. The other transformations I used did remember the previous settings.

The Advanced Sharpen transformation stores its previous settings in a file named previous.as. The file is saved in the PWP folder (under Program Fies). Check the permission settings on this folder -- they are probably set to prevent the application from saving the file.

The PWP file on my computer is in Program Files (X86) - Digital Light & Color. I could find no "previous.as" file in the PWP folder. Also, for making file changes I am a complete "lead by the hand" type. Saying change permissions does not mean anything to me, sorry.

Setting permisions on a folder is a Windows operation. To set permissions:

Display the Picture Window Pro 5.0 folder in Windows Explorer. Right-click on the folder name and select Properties.

Click the Security tab and then the Edit button.

Choose the Users category. Make surethat Modiy and Write permissions are set. Click OK.

This will enable saving in the Picture Window Pro 5.0 folder.

I found similar performance and the same solution worked for me.

Incidentally, I did a search for *.as and found previous.as here:
C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Digital Light & Color\Picture Window Pro 5.0

In this location, along with previous.as I found:
previous.cc
previous.colorcorrect
pevious.lyt
previous.print

YUCK!
Storing user settings in system directories is not really brilliant....
Just because Windows was brain dead enough to allow this for a long time does not mean it is the right place..
Newer versions do not have write access for users in there for a good reason.
Instructing users to open up permissions in there goes against all sane forms of systems management and security guidelines.
Please move that to a user folder.

cheers

I'm with afx

My program files folder is protected for years and on all my pc's (home and work).

A program writing in it is simply a big security risk.
