XPS Driver

Post by Simon Gulliver »

Please advise whether PWPro is fully compatible with the 16 bit per channel XPS driver of the Canon 9500mk2 or will it still convert 16 bit images to 8 bit for printing?

Thanks

PWP does not support 16 bit/channel printing.

Hi

Printing in 16 bit doesn't give an advantage :

Using 16bit untill the conversion to the printer/paper icc profile does.

Thanks everyone.
I am keen to experiment a bit further with this.
I've manage to print after selecting the XPS driver so I assume this is just accepting the 8 bit data for printing. I think most profiling targets are 8 bit so presumably I can print the targets from PWP to profile the new printer/driver combination then print either 8 bit or 16 bit output from eg lightroom to test the benefits or otherwise for myself?

Most printers can't even reproduce 150 visually-distinguishable density levels (per channel), so even 8-bit drivers (which support 256 levels) are overkill and 16-bit drivers (which support 65536 levels) are way overkill.
