script files generated during batch processing - unexpected outcome

Post by pierrelabreche »

When batch processing exports script files ( PWP 8.0.413 )
  • Each generated script file starts with a File open multiple.
  • The file open multiple contains all files for batch processing.
  • Batch processing breakpoints are preserved
  • When invoking these scripts, the top file open unexpectedly brings up the first image for batch processing, not the top image associated with the file export per the filename.
Would it be possible to generate a script file that contains the smallest script for obtaining one exported image, not the complete batch ?

Not sure I understand your question...

If you double click on the File Open Multiple and delete all but the one file you want to process from the list, it will revert to a regular File Open at which point you can save the script and only one file will come back. Similarly if you double click on a File Open and add files to the list it becomes a File Open Multiple. The File Open Multiple command is just a shortcut for creating a File Open and then adding the rest of the selected images to its list.

The file export transformation creates a script file with each invocation of file export, as expected in batch processing.

When revisiting the transformation chain for an output image, I start with opening the file's associated script.

If the script was generated in batch processing, at the file export step, the script contains the set of input files, not just the one of interest : it may buried with tens or hundreds of other input files.
Moreover, the batch processing initializes with the first file in the set.

Scenario :

Let us assume the multiple files of a batch are named A.jpg, B.jpg, C.jpg, ... Y.jpg, Z.jpg

The set is processed in batch mode

The output files exported are named A v1.jpg, B v1.jpg .... etc.

The export also creates script files named A v1.jpg.script , B v1.jpg.script etc.

If you open the script D v1.jpg.script :
  • The image browser does not show the transformation chain for image D.
  • It shows the transformation chain for image A

OK, I see the problem -- I did not anticipate that anyone would export with save scripts selected.

For the next release, exported script files will still include File Open Multiple, but the correct file will be selected from the list so the exported script will regenerate the exported image.
