Color Correction

I have an image which is comprised of three separate images - each image is of the same subject, a traffic light in fog at night, and each image was taken when the light was red, green and yellow so only one light is lit in each. I have comp'd the three together so the final image shows all three lit at the same time.

However, the final and all but one "slave" image, including ALL the raw files have been deleted (long story). The only image left is quite color un-balanced, and the surrounding fog has a heavy orange cast and the green light is actually blue (the red and yellow are acceptable).

I have spent a gajillion hours trying to correct the colors but, because the lights shine into the fog, each fades the farther from the source and as a result, any correction does not blend well around the "blend zones". The correction attempts have included the Color Balance and Color Correction Transforms. So far, I have reached a point where the fog is reasonably corrected (bit of a blue cast now), but the green light is still blue.

My question - Can anyone provide advice as to how to change the green light to green? I used the Color Correction and placed a number of points, but the result isn't working, mostly due to the gradual fall-off of the light into the fog. It is also difficult to know exactly where to move the points to the new locations as each source point is different in hue and tone. Hopefully that explanation makes sense.

Any chance you could post a small version?

Adjusting the green and blue channels using Color Curves might be worth trying.

With a little more time I'm sure the transitions can be smoothed out, and the shade of green could be modified.

Thanks for the replies,

I was actually trying to change the green light in the second (bluer one), but I think the mechanisms should be the same. I will actually look to change the green in both versions to see which looks the best.

MarkT, I have never used the Hue Saturation transform, so it will take me a bit to understand its workings. Thanks for your help.

Jonathan, You are asking me to do something way above my pay grade. I highlighted the section you described but when I do a File>Save As, I do not get an option to save as a text file, I only get the choice of Page Source or Web Archive (in fact, that is on a Mac, if I try to do same on my image editing PC, I can't even conjure up A Save As, just a Copy) . The other thing is, when I highlighted just the section, and saved as an HTML (thinking I could convert after the fact), I actually get the entire thread, not just your contribution.

Hi Marv,

The Hue Saturation transformation is almost too easy to use, and don't forget about the "?" button for detailed help.

Highlight the text only on Jonathan's message, copy the text, open Notepad and paste the text in a new blank document. File/save the Notepad file as "light_changing.script" (or some other filename that makes sense to you).

It's pretty easy.

Highlight the text in the message starting with script 1.0 all the way to the end of the message.
Copy the highlighted text to the clipboard (Ctrl-C).
Open Notepad.
Paste the text into Notepad (Ctrl-V).
Save as a text file (File/Save As...) Marpel.script.
Close Notepad.
Open PWP
Script/Open Script...
Marpel.script

I figured out how to allow script, workspace script and zip files to be uploaded as attachments to messages in this forum. There are file size limitations (currently 600kb) that I can adjust later if this proves too restrictive.

To download a script attachment, click on it and it should be downloaded to and eventually appear in your Downloads folder. From there you can move it to wherever you want.
