Scanner not recognized

There seems to be a problem to import images from a scanner. The menu option "File -> Select Scanner" brings up am empty list. The option "File -> Aquire (Scan) ..." results in an error message. I am using PWP 6 64 v.0.6 Beta. With PWP 5 scanning works fine. The scanner I use is HP Photosmart C4283.

The short answer is that PWP 6/64 runs 64 bit Twain and requires 64 bit scanner drivers. The reason File/Select Source shows no scanners is that you have no 64 bit drivers installed. I wish I could just point you to your scanner web site and say download the 64 bit driver. However scanner manufacturers have been slow in providing such drivers and almost certainly such a driver is not available. (Of course, there is no harm in checking.) We are investigating a bridge to 32 bit Twain drivers but are uncertain at this point of the feasibility and timing of that solution or even its longer-term need. In the meantime, you can scan using your scanner's own software or by using PWP 6/32 which can be installed side by side with PWP 6/64.

When I moved to 64bit the scanning software supplied by Epson for my Perfection 3200 Photo no longer worked and the only solution that I could find was to (buy and) install Vuescan.
It is available here: http://www.hamrick.com/
It took a little getting used to, but it works well.
Mike.

As I mentiond above, PWP 6/32 bit will also work with 32 bit scanner drivers. I keep both 64 and 32 bit versions installed on my Windows 7 machine and use the 32 bit version when I need to scan.
