Hello All,

Other than a high radius / low amount USM pass, is there any other way in PWP7 to mimic Clarity like in Lightroom?

Thank you.

It appears to be a combination of sharpening and midtone contrast enhancement. You can do a midtone contrast boost by applying an S-shaped curve with the Brightness Curve transformation or using the Contrast slide in the Levels and Color transformation.

Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I do agree that clarity is some combination of mid-tone contrast boost along with some sharpening, but it's generally targeted mostly at the mid-tones. Therefore, not sure a general S-shape curve or any global contrast slider will provide the same result. For all the years I've used PWP I've typically applied a high radius / low amount USM pass through a mask attempting to target the mid-tone range. This does work pretty well. However, I thought with all the recent advancements leading to today's version there may be a better way. As a matter of fact, as I type this I'm thinking that the 3-Zone Adjustment transformation via the mid-tone tab and careful adjustment of the tonal range affected may give me a better result. Gonna have to play with that...

Thanks, again.

You might also want to investigate the Advanced Sharpen-Sharpen transform with Sharpen Radius ranges 5 to 10 while limiting increased contrasts to medium detail (mid-frequencies) with the Lower and Upper Threshold settings available as of PWP v7.0.13... ...see: http://www.dl-c.com/board/viewtopic.php ... 4923#p4923...
