a question about Advanced Sharpen

Post by davidh »

Just out of curiosity. Is the Advanced Sharpen Noise reduction blurring step a neccessary part of the final step Sharpen or does Sharpen do its own blurring independently of Noise reduction?
To explain my question better. Advanced Sharpen Noise reduction is meant for blurring noise to prevent its exaggeration later in sharpening. To my knowledge sharpening generally creates a blurred version of an image and compares it with its unblurred version, etc. Does the Sharpen step use solely the result of Noise reduction blurr or adds it somehow to its own blur for comparing with the unblurred version? If the Noise reduction step is skipped, the sharpening has to do its own blurr anyway. Thanks.

Sharpen does its own blurring - you can use any of the three stages of Advanced Sharpen without the others as they all work independently.
