Choosing a colour by RGB numbers

Post by tonygamble »

A friend wants me to re-colour a jpg of a plane he used to fly.

He has told me the Pantone number he feels is right. Professor Google tells me what that number is in RGB terms. I have made a mask of the body of the plane. I can see some options for altering the colour in the Transformation drop down but I can't see one that accepts the three RGB numbers.

Can someone help me, please?

Not sure what transformation you are trying to use, but you can enter RGB as 3 numbers into the color picker at the bottom.

I had chosen Color Correct.

I see nothing at the bottom there.

What would you use, J?

You could use color balance with a mask to select the object you want to recolor. Working with the white balance, set the color to remove to the old color and the color to add to the new color.

If you want to use Selective Color Correction, first use File New to create a small image of the desired Pantone color using the color picker to set the background color.
In Selective Correction, click on the pantone color image to create a control point at that color. then click on the object you want to recolor and drag the arrow from that
control point to the Pantone control point. Finally Ctrl-click on the Pantone control point to remove it.

J.

I am going simple.

I can't find the way to color the background of my new blank image.

Help shows an icon saying Background but I can't find it.

Sorry.

J,

Found it - in the New Image box.

I'm coming to the conclusion that, having made my mask, I get better results by first removing all the original colour and producing a b&w plane. I then add the pantone colour to that version.

Previously too much of the variants of the old colour were leaking through.

Seems to work.
