Steps to Reproduce the Runaway Clone Tool Problem

I saw the runaway clone tool problem again (26-Jun2019-Rel). It occurred in a moderately complicated workspace. I whittled down all the nodes until I was left with a simple way to reproduce the problem (on my PC at least).

1. Open two image files in a new workspace. Call them image A and B. (Both 48bit and JPG seem to behave the same, I used images of the same dimensions.)
2. On image A, select the Composite Transformation. Composite A with B as an overlay. (Blend amount and Operation don’t seem to play a role.)
3. On image B (or the original Image A), open the Clone tool. Rapidly and repeatedly make cloning strokes with the mouse.

This issues should now be fixed for the next release.

Looks good for the clone tool. When attempting to reproduce the problem, the tool's circle does still occasionally blink higher and to the left on the image, but the streak isn't formed. However, I noticed that this is still a problem for the Smudge Tool (inappropriately smudging a location above and to the left of the desired smudge area).
