Preserving curves among Color Spaces?

Post by davidh »

Very often changing the Color Space makes a big difference in the final effect, so switching among HSV, HSL and RGB is necessary to get a required result. Some transformations make it easy to compare different effect others do not.

When changing the Color space:

1. The Brightness Curve is not reset and is preserved while the Color spaces are changed from one to another.

2. The Conditional curve is not only always reset to the neutral diagonal shape, but even the curve from the previous Color shape is not preserved.

3. Adjust and Color curves also do not preserve the curve from one Color Space to another, however they do preserve the cannel curves within one Color Space.

The case with the Brightness Curve is simple as there is only one parameter to set: the Color Space.
With the other transformations mentioned above it might get more complicated and difficult to track.

But since the channel curves can be preserved within one Color Space, could they be preserved also among the Color Spaces?
For example: the HSL curves set for H-S-V would be preserved for HSL as H-S-L or vice versa, and in case of RGB the channels All-R-G-B would be all set to the V resp L curve and vice versa.

In Conditional Curve the X and Y axis setings are already preserved when the Color Space is changed. Could the current curve be also preserved instead of reset?
