That might be the problem - all my computers are on Windows 10 here.

I am still playing with the options and got the following error message:
JPEG Options-01.jpg
JPEG Options-01.jpg (30.78 KiB) Viewed 1894 times
JPEG Options-02.jpg
JPEG Options-02.jpg (18.44 KiB) Viewed 1894 times
Maybe it gives some hint.

It looks like WIC (the component of Windows that PWP uses the read and write JPEG files) was updated extensively between Window 7 and Window 8 and again for Windows 10. My guess is that somewhere in that process support was added for 4:0:0 or that a bug in 4:0:0 was fixed somewhere along the line.

I also have Win7 64 Professional on my 2 PCs, but I did not encounter the problem with Chroma Subsampling 4:4:0 when I tried to replicate it.

Thanks for this information.
So there must be something special with my system.
But since normally I don't use subsampling 4:4:0 it is not a problem for me.
