Crop Guides missing?

Postby Charles2 » June 28th, 2013, 6:07 pm

I installed PWP 7.0.10 64-bit then used the Windows 7 Control Panel to uninstall PWP 6. There are no choices under Geometry | Crop | Guides, and my hard drive has no PWCompositionGuides.txt file.

Technically this query should not be in the Beta Comments forum, but I hope DLC staff will see it.

It appears that uninstalling PWP 6 uninstalled the Composition Guides as well as other files in the applications folder. This is definitely a problem and we will have to develop a solution for it.

As a workaround, I would suggest uninstalling the old application before installing the new one. This should work unless you have customized some of the files in the applications folder. If so, you should back them up before installation.

Of course this is now too late in your case. You can try the installer again in Repair mode or deleting the new installation and reinstalling.

I will investigate to see how this problem can be avoided in the future.

I have confirmed that rerunning the installer in Repair mode does restore the missing files.

Thus current advice is to remove the old program before installing the new one.

However if one does inadvertently delete files such as the Crop Guides, they can be restored by rerunning the install.
