Re: RAW Dynamic Range

Kiril, Thanks for your further reply and sorry to belabour the point, but I expect that I may be responsible for some confusion due to my poor initial description. As I understood the experts, they were suggesting the 9 - 248 were set in the preferences for the black and white point tools, so when a...

Re: RAW Dynamic Range

Kiril, Thanks for your reply. I agree that each image requires its own evaluation as to it's optimum dynamic range. I think the 9 - 248 suggestions that I have read are more relevant to images destined for printing. Something to do with the dynamic range of photo papers I suspect. Regarding your com...

RAW Dynamic Range

Hello, I have noted, after using/trying a few different image editing programs over the years and reading related literature, that some "experts" suggest setting black and white points at around 8 - 9 and 248 - 249, respectively. In fact, a book I have on NX2, my current-used RAW program, ...

Re: Mask - Colour Range tool

Dieter, Your latest answer actually helps a lot. I admit I was a bit confused by the use of the term "Colour Space" in the Mask Tool, in reference to HSV, HSL and RGB (I made an incorrect assumption that RGB was referring to something like Adobe 1998, so further presumed that HSV and HSL h...

Re: Mask - Colour Range tool

Dieter, Mike and Couman, thanks for taking the time to reply. Dieter - I concur that I may have tried to use the wrong tool for the stuff I was trying to do. As noted in my initial post, I have just discovered the track method (and am finding it more and more useful). I am also aware of the shift+dr...

Mask - Colour Range tool

Hello, A couple questions about the Mask Tool - Colour Range. I was recently trying to mask an area, using the Colour Range tool, of an image that has gone through some pretty radical Composite Transform iterations, including adding an image to itself with Soft Light and Hard Light blend. As some of...

Re: Low/High Spatial Frequency Imaging & PWP

Den,

Thanks for the extensive reply. As I am not as conversant in many of the terms you, and other forum members, use, it will take me a while to make my way through your explanation to ensure I understand it!

Thanks again,

Marv

Re: Low/High Spatial Frequency Imaging & PWP

Den, Although the links (and some of your comments) indicate this sequence is specific to portrait/skin, you use a non portrait example, so I assume this may be used on other type images such as landscape? If so, a couple questions: For sharpening, is this intended to replace the usual capture sharp...

Re: Mask questions

Thanks Den,

I have rarely used the mask polygon tool, so know little of it's attributes. I will have to give this a try.
