Re: RAW woes

I usually sharpen in PWP although there is no harm is doing some light sharpening in the raw converter. Because I have been very interested in learning what functions in so-called raw processors actually work with original raw data and had difficulty finding a source of this information that I felt...

It seems to me people don't always distinguish between RAW (conversion) and post processing. Some may not know the difference. And, unlike me, they are afraid to ask. ;-)
BINGO! IMHO

Re: RAW woes

The probe in PWP's Color Balance transformation does the same thing as the probe in the raw converter. As long as you are working with 16-bit data, the results should be more or less identical. I just tested that. Not that I didn't believe you. But wanted to verify for myself. In my raw converter o...

Re: RAW woes

Thanks for the additional knowledge Jonathan. I did know that the in-camera white balance setting does not affect the raw data. Any refinements of the color balance are done during the conversion or post conversion processes. But I just took it on faith that done as part of conversion produced a mor...

Re: RAW woes

Here are the operations I think are best performed by the raw converter, listed in order of importance: 1) exposure adjustment, including highlight and shadow recovery - this does things you can't do in PWP after the conversion. 2) lens corrections (distortion, chromatic aberration, vignetting) - y...

Re: Transparency

Jonathan, that sounds like just what I need. Today, I'll read the white paper you referenced. Didn't get to it yesterday as I attended a pot luck dinner and then watched my alma mater destroy Notre Dame. The only other time I used the Composite transform, I had done something like tone mapping an im...

Re: Transparency

Thank your Jonathan. I'll check out the white paper. I know how to use masks on the target image to insure that a clone is applied only to a selected area. But in this situation it is the source image (the image from which the cloned item is coming) from which I only want a selected portion to be tr...

Transparency

Is there a way in PWP 7 to make a portion of an image transparent? Without going into detail of the exact situation, I want to render as transparent, just a selective portion of an image (through the use of a mask) so that if the result is cloned onto an actual photo, the underlying image will show ...

Re: Cloning from one image to another

I use image-to-image cloning in a different manner. For noise reduction I use dedicated noise reduction software other than PWP. Because noise reduction has the side effect of softening the image and there are some areas where noise is not particularly distracting, I may clone from the noise-adjuste...

Re: Thumbnail image in jpeg

by jsachs » September 24th, 2019, 9:18 am None of the other formats have thumbnails either. It's a lot of work to add thumbnails and not high on my priority list. If it's a deal killer for you, then stop using Picture Window and whining about it. One more abusive post and you will be banned from th...
