Re: Another use for texture mask - reveal the wire mesh
Since you are experiencing a 'mesh' with your RAW files processed in PWP's RAW Conversion... have you considered changing to an alternate 'Preferred Interpolation' in the Advanced Settings section of the "File\Raw Settings..."? For me a 'mesh' becomes evident when using PWP Jpeg files wher...

Re: Another use for texture mask - reveal the wire mesh
I checked again/confirmed... the tiff image area of the illustration is the PWP RAW conversion of a Canon CR2 file and the jpeg image area is the tiff image saved as a jpeg file at 100% quality using PWP5's newer jpeg libraries... ... but then I normally use the MaskTool-Texture feature to find edge...

Re: Another use for texture mask - reveal the wire mesh
If the image you are masking is derived from a jpeg file, you may be looking at the compression artifacts plus normal noise... the Mask Tool-Texture can be that sensitive with the settings I believe you indicate. Illustrated is an Apply-Add texture mask with the settings I believe you are using wher...

Re: PWP's Composite-Blend transform & RGB Gamma's
Hi Mike.... (A) To construct PWP's default gamma 2.22 RGB Input image, click on New: (a) set preference dimensions; (b) click on the 'color' square, select 'red', and move the vertical slider down until R=75; and (c) click OK. Open the Crop/AddBorder transform: (a) add a right side border the same w...

PWP's Composite-Blend transform & RGB Gamma's
An interesting discussion is currently ongoing on the DPR Retouching forum titled: Photoshop "Blend RGB Colors Using Gamma:1" at http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1006&message=36017517 . The OP's results are reproducible using PWP's Composite transform in Blend mode. Ill...

Re: Shadows, 16-bit to 8-bit conversion, brightness transform
RobertS.... My apologies... ...after a more considered attention to your postings, I now realize what my confusion is/was. Manipulation of a 16-bit pixel's lower 8-bits of data [shadow - high dynamic range] versus manipulation of a captured scene's 0-255 tone dynamic range, i.e., the manipulation of...

Re: Shadows, 16-bit to 8-bit conversion, brightness transform
It has been my experience that if one wishes to preserve the maximum image data to simulate HDR from a single RAW conversion image using PWP's converter, than one should do only a basic conversion with no edits, sharpening, etc... with 'Medium' contrast expansion and Camera WhiteBalance to a 16-bit ...

Re: Shadows, 16-bit to 8-bit conversion, brightness transform
Nuances: ...perhaps not necessary for human visual, monitor, and printer capacities... ...but if one is concerned about transformation of the "lower 8 bit depths" that affect "pixel to pixel graduations" of 16-bit [48-bit color] image files [or Black-White images where initially ...

Re: HDR Oloneo
BobW ... thank you for the screen shot with the SI Brightness/Density curves. I have had difficulty understanding the concept of the Density Masks and your post has helped!!! MikeG ... I know that you were interested in blending your two images with StackImages with minimal Amount mask use but it i...
