Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

Make up a test image by painting the primaries and complements (R,G,B,C,M,Y). I changed red using remap (default sliders) by selecting a target diagonally down toward blue a moderate distance from the white corner. Use readout to test the result colors and (except for a small creep) only red is chan...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

The following examples show Tightness in action. The first image has the sky unaltered. The second image sampled a point above the mountain and it changed only a band of color (hope it still shows after the downsize). I set the Chroma/Brightness radii down to .02 to better show the change. The third...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

OK, here's an example where Tightness in Color Remap might be used. Take a sky with a fairly wide gradient from top to bottom. Select a point about midway with Remap and move the color to a more or less saturated blue as desired. Because Remap is precise, only a band across the gradient will be affe...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

Maciej: A Show Affected Pixels feature would be great for Color Remap. My take on Tightness is that it expands/contracts the Hue, Saturation, and Brightness of the colors to be changed just as the Chroma/Brightness radii expands/contracts the replace colors. Presumably, we would use it when we want ...

Re: Raw and Magenta Highlights

I did a blown sky recovery last night and got magenta in the sky which was easily removed with Color Remap. PWP also recovered a fairly good blue. After reading Randy’s post, I tried another raw converter on the same image and it achieved a weak cyan with a somewhat weaker magenta. I also noticed th...

Re: Raw Setting Can't See Camera Profile

Randy:

The Microsoft color profile applet shows both the filename and internal name of profiles.

Looks like it's now available at: http://www.microsoft.com/prophoto/downl ... fault.aspx at least for XP.

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

Mike: Interesting that you post this example as I did the same thing on a winter scene with a scuddy gray sky interlaced with darker clouds. With Color Remap I moved the light gray toward blue with minimal impact on the blue cast on the snow. But I ran into a problem last night where I made the chan...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

Mike: Another less obvious use for Color Remap is to reduce specular reflections on leaves. I have long used Color Correction for that purpose. If memory serves me correctly, Bob Coutant mentioned in a post long ago that he also uses C-C for that purpose (if not my memory needs more than a color cor...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

Mike: As a practical example, the colors in the Mountain Ash berries in the image below were not rendered correctly by the camera (partially due to gamut clipping). In the process of restoring a better hue to the berries, the red fringe around some of the leaves was mostly lost. In the image below, ...

Re: Color Remap - in regular use?

Mike: I have used Color Remap several times with considerable success. Color Correction does the same thing but is less adjustable and often requires a mask to avoid spreading the effect too far across the image. Color Correction has a radius but remap is much more precise in how we can control the ...
