Re: Three Stage Sharpening
Reference: B Fraser , Out of Gamut: Thoughts on a Sharpening Workflow: http://www.creativepro.com/article/out-of-gamut-thoughts-on-a-sharpening-workflow 1 -- Capture Sharpening is applied early in the image-editing process, and just aims to restore any sharpness that was lost in the capture process....

A screen shot of what I have been doing to add distributed noise based upon an image's luminance as described in my prevous posting above is here: http://www.ncplus.net/~birchbay/misc/Ad ... dnoise.htm... ...hope this is of help.

Re: High ISO Digital Monochromic [BW] Imaging
Jonathan... thanks I will investigate. MaciejT... yes but perhaps I am not using a good texture. I have tried the Composite transform in different modes (Blend, SoftLight, LowPass, HighPass) where the Input image is the image to be 'noised' and the Input mask is an Inverse 'active' MaskTool-Brightne...

Tony... others If of further interest, 800x533 images have been posted here: http://www.ncplus.net/~birchbay/09/IMAGEsbyDEN_09_85.htm , showing the BW image version [top] and the original camera jpeg download image [bottom]. Place your mouse over the 'top' image, wait a bit for the 'bottom' image to...

High ISO Digital Monochromic [BW] Imaging
In a recent Message Board thread [ http://www.dl-c.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=142 ] a ‘film like’ digital imaging approach was requested where ‘film like’ was apparently desired to have the grainy appearance of high speed black/white film rather than the crispness-smoothness of large format, ...

...for me the 'film look' is what can be achieved similar to large format film cameras and sea-landscape/nature image content, preferably with vibrancy and contrast, yet containing crisp detail as the eye/mind moves from one visual element to the next....

Re: Adding noise anyone?
In other words, how do I take a digital file and use PWP so that it fools the film enthusiasts into thinking it was shot on film? OKay... let's set aside affordability and quality of hardware that separates film and digital to produce prints either as a hobbyist, professional, or commercial enterpr...

Re: Reducing Chroma noise
You might experiment with Bilateral Sharpen. For the illustration below, 10% gaussin RGB noise was added to the Bilateral transform Input image. The transform settings are: Amount = 100; Blur = 20; Blur Threshold = 10; Sharpen Factor = 45; and Sharpen Threshold = 0... NOTE: noise is not normally add...

Re: Adding noise anyone?
Could it be that the film prints where produced/developed by a commercial film service and the digital prints produced with medium quality consumer available inkjet printers/papers and computer system?

Re: Adding noise anyone?
Tony... Point 1: Most photo-realistic images will have the 2->3% noise (grain) naturally occuring in the RAW conversion or camera jpg image [assuming proper exposure and near full dynamic range]... so perhaps adding noise should be considered as a 'restorative' step when post-processing edits remove...
