Re: Capture One Express for Fuji and Sony (free)
Capture One does some idiosyncratic things to colors when it opens a raw file. See http://www.lumariver.com/lrpd-manual/#c1_curves Indeed, it begins quite differently than both Raw Therapee and the free version of Silkypix for Fuji cameras. I tried to work with it for a few dozen files; at first it ...

Re: RAW conversion -- look into dcraw
You might look into dcraw, the command-line demosaic program that is at the core of most raw developer software and firmware, even from camera vendors. Among the parameters you can set, gamma is probably one of them. Dave Coffin produced and maintained the program for free for many years. I think he...

Re: Check for update error???
... you are probably seeing a cached copy of a previous version. This is a really annoying "optimization" that web browsers implement to avoid downloading the same file over and over again. Sometimes reloading the web page fixes it. Yes. In Firefox, F5 is a "normal" refresh and ...

Re: Bug fix release 2-Oct-2019
The Microsoft DNG codec loads the embedded JPEG -- the Adobe DNG codec loads the full image. Well, Adobe does not make it easy to find a description or documentation of the assumptions that matter when making an image out of the raw data, such as how the codec sets the tone curve, temperature and t...

Example of a shot with Primaries and without
I did the workflow for this shot twice, once with a Primaries transformation, once the same except no Primaries transformation. The Primaries transformation was not the last one applied. For what it is worth, you can compare how it looks with and without. Criticism welcome. With: https://www.flickr....

About the new Primaries transformation
The Primaries transformation is something to explore. My first fear is that it would seduce me into violating what seems a good rule: keep calibration and other color adjustments that aim for accuracy separate from color changes that deliberately bend colors for aesthetic reasons. For the latter, th...

Re: Bug fix release 1-Aug-2019
I use Classic Start Menu, and with it I second the advice to use something calmer and more systematic than the default Windows 10 user interface.
