I have had on my to-do list for a long time to add support for rotated panels -- for now only 90 degree rotations are supported, and only for images, not text.

I added an offset in the Text transformation and Lines, Arrows, Text tool for the next release. If there is still a spacing issue after this, I will try to track it down.
