Perhaps the key to a camera JPG engine
A coda to the discussion of HSL-H curve manipulations: The colors of an Olympus E-P1 raw file loaded into PWP were different from those in the camera JPG. In particular I wanted to imitate the JPG red on some thistles. The RGB-R curve could do it, but it also mangled other parts of the image, for ex...

Re: Using hue curve to "get the green out of yellows"
One thing this exploration reminded me is that my skills wielding the Color Range mask tool are terrible. This tool should be helpful in conjunction with modifying a hue curve and also as a different method of isolating areas that one could then run through Color Correct or simple ColorCurve-RGB cha...

Re: Using hue curve to "get the green out of yellows"
Ken Rockwell has a screenshot of his ACR sliders. It is currently on this page http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/00-new-today.htm while the presumably permanent location of the screenshot is at http://www.kenrockwell.com/leica/images/m9/m9-acr-dng-2010-08-16.jpg : http://www.kenrockwell.com/leica/imag...

Using hue curve to "get the green out of yellows"
This language from Ken Rockwell, where he talks about getting green out of yellows, for example, is suggestive: Like all great art throughout the ages, the stunning color representation of the LEICA M9 polarizes all who experience it. Some people love its unique interpretation, while others, includi...

Re: Another use for texture mask - reveal the wire mesh
Curious. I got the opposite of your result: the Olympus raw ORF file loaded through the Raw Dialog showed the mesh when texture masked, while the camera JPG did not.

Correction and problem: No mesh at scene
Returned to the scene. There is no mesh there. Working with a shot of a completely different scene, I noticed a similar but not as pronounced mesh or grid overlay, again upon applying a texture mask with the white carat moved almost entirely to the left. This image also showed a similar pattern, alt...

Problem registering a file type to PWP
Installed on Windows XP in the default folder. Had the previous release in a different subfolder of "Program Files" (outside "Digital Light & Color"). After installing, removed the previous release. Now I cannot register Olympus ORF files to be opened with PWP. PWP is not in ...

Another use for texture mask - reveal the wire mesh
I shot a landscape from a bridge through what I thought was merely a chain link fence. No problem, the lens could see through one of the openings. Processing in PWP, I could not make the image good. My typical curve manipulations, local contrast with a high-pass filter, soft light, and brightness ch...

Re: Blur and Masking
Thanks to PWP fellow users. These suggestions do more than teach a specific technique. They open eyes to other potential manipulations with PWP. I must say about this topic that, for blurred background and other reasons, it has been a pleasure to get a couple of legacy manual focus lenses for my Oly...
