An easy interface tweak for Level transformation
The vertical level line goes all the way from the top to the bottom of the image. It's a bit awkward to reduce its length. A shorter line upon opening the transformation, similar to the horizontal level line, would help.

Re: Two Questions
Thank you, MarkT. I learned three things about effective masking of a sky over a mountainous horizon, a face out of an image, etc. that I did not notice in the PWP manual. One, for this task the size of feathering relates to the pixel dimensions of the image. Two, apply feathering several times in s...

Re: Luminosity (Luminance) and R+G+B histograms
One of the most practical aids that many digital cameras offer is a preview of the image with blinking red on highlights and blinking blue on shadows. Many times a portion of sky is the only red blinking. When that happens, the photographer need not reduce exposure and shoot again since she can tame...

Re: UniWB - Practical Use?
No experience with UniWB. Perhaps almost as good and easier: buy an exposure meter. Experiment to find a formula, easy to calculate in the field, that relates the meter reading to a roughly optimal exposure by the camera.

Re: Channel Mixer in PWP
1. Could you describe roughly what you do by hand? 2. Perhaps this thread about using Hues curves is a partial step toward your goal: http://www.dl-c.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=317 3. There is a channel mixer in the free program Raw Therapee. Despite the name of the program, RT will open a TI...

White balance by probe - the luminance
Is there a good rule for adjusting luminance when you do a white balance by probe? After probing a point on the input image, the result is usually brighter or darker than the input image. I open the Remove Color and Add Color windows, change the readouts from RGB to HSL, and slide the output HSL-L t...

Re: Using hue curve to "get the green out of yellows"
Looked at your product photos, Cliff. You are no newbie! The photos present the products extremely well. The images aim for an objective style (which remains a style, self-effacing as it might be). The thread began with something from Ken Rockwell, who delights in obvious exaggeration in a certain d...
