You have an sRGB image converted to the Chrome color space as if you had used Transformation/Color/Change Profile

First make sure the images have the lightest patches on the left and the darkest on the right. This may require using Transformation/Geometry/Mirror/Rotate. This message indicates a problem with the video drivers not supporting color lookup tables for some reason - possibly because you are not running as an Administrator? Other than looking for more recent drivers to download I'm not sure what else to try.

The huge problem with Lab is that it is very easy to create out of gamut or even physically unrealizable colors such as really bright blues. HSL is the closest equivalent in PWP and does not have this problem.

This method does not make the darkest patch pure black or the lightest patch pure white. Using the file is the recommended method.
