Regarding LAB Color Space

LAB can be expressed in polar coordinates as LCH (Lightness, Chroma, Hue) akin to HSV. This helps with the non-intuitiveness of the Cartesian coordinates, specifically the a* and b* axis. This would be a nice enhancement for PWP.

Re: Why are some features not available as widgets?

One more voice: The computations in the sharpen part of Advanced Sharpen are much more accurate than USM and the transformation is ideal for the output sharpening of downsized tiffs to be converted in batch to jpegs for Net use. Output sharpening can be done by the numbers depending only on the size...

Re: PS recomended sharpening vs PW

A couple of additional comments on sharpening in PWP. The term frequency is often used to describe image content where, for example, feathers on a bird or hair in a portrait have high frequency while the sky or blurry areas have low frequency. The PS recommendations of fractional radii and large amo...

Re: Color Temperature in Color Balance Transform

Doug: Adjusting WB is normally done as part of raw conversion hence its appearance in the Lightroom demo. The PWP 5 raw converter offers a number of WB presets such as Camera, Auto, Daylight, Shade, Tungsten, and others. It also has a WB probe to sample a neutral on the image, and Color Temp (red – ...

Re: Micro Contrast

Gary: Its difficult to be specific w/o an image, but here are a few general suggestions: Pulling the WP to the left using HSV or RGB curves increases contrast and increases brightness mostly the lighter areas with less effect on the darks. A high radius – low amount sharpening (generally known as Lo...

Re: Does Soft Light in PWP = Overlay in PS?

Cliff: If we can ignore for the moment Janko W’s method and his use of High Pass filters and only consider PS Overlay and PWP Soft Light as transformations using base and overlay images: The PS Overlay method is described as a combination of the Multiply and Screen modes depending on the base tonal ...

Re: Cumaltive mode for paint tool

Having the mask paint tool be cumulative with multiple clicks would be extremely useful. The paint tool and clone tool both work that way -- only the mask paint tool does not.

Re: Pre Sharpening?

Gary: The most elaborate sharpening scheme was proposed by Bruce Fraser and calls for three phases: Capture Sharpening to offset the blurring induced by the AA filter and other digital capture factors, creative sharpening to improve the image, and output sharpening to compensate for image resizing a...

Re: Pre Sharpening?

The answer mostly depends on the specific raw converter and at what capabilities it excels. We only get one shot at true highlight recovery so always do that in the converter. In my brief trial of C1, the base conversion was excellent with accurate colors and great detail, but I got better highlight...

Re: Keyboard Shortcut for Brush resizing etc.

For the painters among us, not having to take our eye off the ball when painting transformations would be a major plus. In addition to resizing the brush, a pair of keys that would toggle up and down through a series of presets changing brush transparency would be useful as well.
