Re: New Picture Window Update
Oops! The date on my manual is August 2013. I guess the manual is an integral part of the purchase of a new version of the program (i.e. Version 7.0) since I purchased that in Sept. 2013. I see now that revisions related to a maintenance upgrade are a separate download on the website under Downloads...

Re: New Picture Window Update
Kiril, I recently installed the maintenance update to version 7.0 that is labeled 7.0.17a. This was at the suggestion of Den so I could try out the new "Detail Control" function within the Brightness Curve transformation. Like it a lot. Today I noticed that the Electronic Manual (accessed ...

Re: Canon's "Digital Lens Optimizer" software for RAW images
Robert .... When I first wanted to play around with a panoramic composite, I looked for a cheap way to experiment with the technique and stumbled upon Hugin. I don't do much of this processing. But haven't felt the need for anything more sophisticated (or expensive). It sounds like you feel the same...

Raw conversion vs other transformation dialogs
In a different recent thread, Kiril wrote: Finally there is no loss of information if you decide not to make brightness adjustments in the raw dialog but instead make them using the brightness curve or one of the other brightness dialogs in a separate step. This comment leads directly to a question...

Question about megabytes
I never thought much about this until I noticed a question in a different forum about whether one could save a file to a specific megabyte (MB) size. (Seemed to be a strange thing to want to do.) But I recalled that one of the data points in PW's Resize transformation was File Size, recorded in MB. ...

Re: Remove shine from photo of oil painting
Thanks, Jonathan, for alerting me to the "overlap" mask mode. I have now read about it in the manual and tested it out on an image. Can't tell you how many times I have built a mask based on a color range -- thinking that the color was present just in the area of the image I was interested...

Re: Remove shine from photo of oil painting
On May 24 2006, Den posted a technique for reducing the shine of flash on people's faces (foreheads, noses, cheeks, etc.) that he shared with me much more recently and has worked well for me. It may work in your situation if you set lots of transparency and softness in the transformation and use a b...

Re: Just saw this notice... R.I.P. Lotus 1-2-3
Yes, it may be ancient history -- for both of us. But your wonderful program was my "constant companion" in 1987 during the leveraged buyout (LBO) of my company by KKR (Kohlberg, Kravis and Roberts). It was the largest LBO to date, until dwarfed by their takeover of RJR Nabisco a year or s...

Re: Mask Dimensions -- JPG and Raw Images
Thanks, Den, for this response and also the previous one. I resized the TIF created from the Raw file conversion to the same pixel length and width as the JPEG. (Hadn't noticed these differences previously.) With this modification, the mask created from the original JPEG worked perfectly with the mo...

Mask Dimensions -- JPG and Raw Images
I took a series of images with the camera set to save both Raw and JPEG formats. Yesterday, I did extensive editing on one of the JPEG's. This included the creation of a mask for the heavily shadowed side of a person's face to allow selective lightening of that area. Thinking I might want to do some...
