Re: Topaz support

The article is ok, but take into account that the article is nearley 2 years old and the tools might have improved. I downloaded the raw and developed it with DxO 6 and DeepPrime XD and received a very good result (from my point of view). Problem: DeepPrime XD needs a strong CPU or graphic-card. Pr...

Re: Absolute Difference

I tested it with jpeg quality set to 95. After say 5-6 saves there is definitely a difference, the file size changes a bit.
Autorange is required to see the differences after the Absolute Difference transformation. The question is, is it a relevant difference in practice?

Re: DxO PureRAW Released

I use DxO Photolab 4, and the option "export to DNG" is similar to the output of Pure RAW. As Jonathan commented, the optical corrections and the noise reduction are excellent. The exported DNG files are large, since they are linear RAW files. I use the "export to DNG" option onc...

Re: composition guide

I see, it's in the "grid" menu. Excuse me, I didn't search well enough. As I said, I still use PWP7 next to 8, and mainly use 8 for those transformations that are not, or less convenient, in 7. Old habits slowly die. I will use 8 a bit more. My question has been answered, and even faster t...

Re: composition guide

You are right, it is the Westhoff Diagonal method and years ago I read the paper he wrote about it. When I still had a b&w analog darkroom, I used a transparent paper with 45deg lines drawn on it on top of the photo paper, to position e.g. an eye in a portrait on the diagonal. And took that away...

composition guide

I would like to add a composition guide to the crop tool: 4 lines that show the angle bisector of the 4 corners of a rectangular crop. So, lines at 45 and 135 degrees. The format of the composition guide files (e.g. Diagonals or Thirds-diagonals) has, logically, the corners of the crop rectangle as ...

Re: RAW woes

As expected and explained by Jonathan, expanding to full dynamic range changes a lot. The next thing you could do is to use the midtone slider under the "grey" menu.

Re: RAW woes

I use PWP 7 for the majority of my RAW conversions and am very satisfied, at least with low-ISO images. High-ISO images have a bit more noise than I like, so I treat them differently. You can send me the 2 RAW+JPG files of your screenshots, if you wish, and I'll try to make the RAW conversion look m...

Re: Cloning from one image to another

Marv, you say that you use CS6 next to PWP. I suppose you know that you can focus-stack in CS6 as well? Your images with different focus settings cannot be perfectly aligned, because you change the magnification a bit with the changed focus. CS6 will compensate for that. A dedicated program like Hel...
