Re: Raw image file interpretation

Thank you for describing how PWP performed its raw conversion.

Is there any reason you didn't mention LibRaw in your listed recommendations? (Or, horrors, Lightroom / PS for that matter?) Thanks.

Cheers, Peter

Raw image file interpretation

For some reason, I am under the impression that raw color conversion in PWP is done with DCRaw. Is that true? If not, how is raw image file interpretation performed? Whatever the raw converter, it must be updated regularly as new cameras to be supported come out or changes in raw formats come out an...

Re: Eclipse HDR

Gentlemen: Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond in a timely manner. I will respond to each of you in turn. Let me be somewhat more specific as to what I did. There were seven shots in each HDR stack all at ISO 200 and f/8 (400mm f/5.6 lens with 1.4 telec...

Eclipse HDR

I photographed the recent 21 August eclipse and have a series of very nice looking images, which, if I can properly combine them should yield a very nice image of the solar corona, prominences, and the lunar disk as illuminated by earthshine. The problem is properly combining the images. Each HDR se...

Re: Mask tool fails

Last night I tested creating a mask again on a different image file. Worked fine. Then another. Worked fine. Then back to the image file where this started. Failed. Hmm. The file where it fails is a bit unusual. It is a longish exposure, ~40", image of the sky and landscape: the Milky Way over the G...

Mask tool fails

The mask tool doesn't work on my new machine and repeated attempts eventually causes PWP to crash. (Perhaps you've seen the report I've let it send out. Or was that a Microsoft crash report?) I'm running Windows XP-Pro, 32-bit, 4GB RAM, Athlon xp64 processor, and PWP5.0.1.11. I tried rebooting to no...

PS recomended sharpening vs PW

I regularly see PS sharpening recommendations of Radius of say 0.2 to 0.5 pixels with Amount or 200% to 300%. Has anyone any thoughts as to why this is recommended? Until Advanced Sharpen came along, this was not even possible because only integral radii are recognized in the Sharpen dialog. This su...

resize and sharpen

I tried a search on "resize sharpen" and didn't find anything that directly addressed my question. When I take largish images, of order 5600x3700, and re-size them for projection at our club to 1024x768 bounding size, I get mixed results. If the image has 'simple detail' such as a macro of a flower,...

Re: PW vs PS

Den: It appears I did not make myself sufficiently clear. You say "High Light". In my version of PW (version 5.0.1.2) there is no "Composite - High Light". There are, among others, "Soft Light", "Hard Light", "Low Pass", and "High Pass". "High Light" sounds like a confabulation of the second and fou...

Re: PW vs PS

Jonathan: Thanks for the input. Den: Thanks for the reference. The LCE work flow gives a nice, relatively subtle effect on the image on which I tried it. I believe you have an error in the work flow description. In both Steps 4 you write: open the Composite - Soft Light or High Light transform I thi...
