Re: Inverting Tones in a B and W image

Jonathan, Thanks for the info. Didn't even know Grey had a Negative as well. Dieter, Actually, I wasn't using a mask (at least as a mask) when inverting the tones. But, as I did not realize that there was Grey > Negative to invert, I was converting an image to 8 bit so I could then invert it (as whe...

Inverting Tones in a B and W image

Is there a way to invert the tones of a black and white image (similar to inverting a mask) without first converting it into an 8 bit black and white (mask) image. I am primarily concerned about the degradation in quality in tones by going into 8 bit B and W and back again (as opposed to just 16 bit...

Color > Negative

Had written up a new post on this topic and somehow it disappeared when I was halfway through, so I apologize if two show up when I submit this latest draft. Anyway, I have been giving the Color > Negative transform a try and think I have figured out the color relationship when moving each of the Re...

JenniferB,

Thanks for your suggestions. Will also have to take a run at this method.

Re: Separaing tones/hues

Jonathan and Den, Thanks to both for the replies. Jonathan, your approach actually looks like it works pretty well. I was looking for a more pronounced set of light beams without the background going crazy, which this seems to accomplish. I will have to play around with this a bit. Den, as I have no...

Re: Separaing tones/hues

Jonathan, Thanks for the reply. I have tried both and found with Saturation, the entire image is affected and, although it does pump up the light beams, the background starts to take on a sickly orange colour. With Selective Colour, if selecting close to the light fixture, it works relatively well, ...

Separaing tones/hues

Was out one recent foggy morning and captured an image of a traffic light (actually shot three images - one for each red/green/amber - then composited them in PWP, using "Lighten" blend mode - worked like a charm) with the lights emanating the rays into the fog. Tried a number of attempts ...

Re: Show Clipped Pixels

Thanks Jonathan, Had the clipping value in Preferences set to 255, but did not realize that only one channel had to meet that limit. For some reason, just assumed all 3 channels had to meet/exceed for the clipping to show up when using the tool. Nice to know. Also, followed your advice and checked t...
