Re: DxO PureRAW Released

I've been using DxO for well over a year once I realised that Qimage was losing interest in RAW converting. I'd been using it for ages but it became pretty clear that nobody wanted to use it for bulk converting. Mike and his akolites were folk who would spend the best part of an hour working on an i...

Re: Raw File Support...this was probably asked...

I started using PWP when I sold my film cameras around 2003. Most recently I have been using Qimage to convert my RAW images. Qimage started life as a printing program but the developer introduced a way of working with RAW files about ten years ago. It works adequately when one is dealing with a few...

Re: RAW woes

I find it almost impossible to reproduce the detail and sharpness of a jpg from a raw edit....the tones and colors are often better but its hard I find to nail the detail to the same level of the jpg without a lot of work if at all That is really disappointing to someone who has never even bothered...

Re: RAW woes

Thanks J,

That is with v8 and, as you know, I have yet to upgrade.

I need to now you are out of beta. I'll do the swop when I get back after Christmas.

You warned me there was a bit of a learning curve - but I'll need a challenge or to for 2020.

Re: RAW woes

Couldn't this be because RAW converters have "evolved" to more than RAW processors? Quite right croos. Speaking personally there are actions that QU attempts to do but which are much better done in PWP. But remember the three points listed by JS. If you don't do them before you start work...

Re: RAW woes

Not to say there is anything wrong with adjusting it in the raw converter. Unlike highlight and shadow recovery which can only be done properly on raw files, white balance can be just as easily adjusted after conversion. However if our OP does try Qimage Ultimate I would advocate getting the WB to ...

Re: RAW woes

"Only it seems geared towards printing" That is probably because that was the way it started out. I do so few prints these days that I actually ran some test files on my Epson 3880 this morning as I was worried it might dry up over the Christmas holiday. QU actually has a head cleaning mo...

Re: RAW woes

When I moved from film to digital around 2003 I was introduced to Picture Window Pro and also Qimage. At that time Qimage did not do RAW converting but when it did and became Qimage Ultimate I moved my RAW work to it. It is still my RAW converter for everything other than my Sigma Merrill files. If ...

Re: Save as - can I direct where it goes first please

Thanks Jonathan,

I ought to make moving to PWP8 my New Year resolution.

I need a Learning Curve to keep the brain active. Better value than my daily cryptic crossword.

All Best Wishes,

Tony
